In Memory of Sammy Dawson

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Sammy Dawson. Sammy passed away on Monday, January 29, 2018 with his family by his side after a brief battle with lung disease.

Sammy began guiding alongside David Westby for the Blue Marlin Lodge in 1980. After working 3 years at Glover’s Reef, he joined Lincoln Westby and Blue Horizon in 1997 and had been poling the flats of Permit Alley ever since. Lincoln and Sammy were friends for 59 years.

To be on the bow of Sammy’s boat was a privilege that thousands of clients from around the world enjoyed. He could read people as well as he could read the sea, which was his office for 40 years. He had a way of making us laugh like no one else and if you listened carefully, you found wisdom in his words.

He loved chasing permit, hunting in the jungle, and spending time with his family. He was kind, smart, reliable, and a grand master of the sea. He is survived by his wife Lorinda, and his daughters Samarra and Samalya. Sammy will be greatly missed.
